Students’ Elos “World Café” 5th May 2011:Twenty students of IES Ekialde BHI (Vitoria-Gasteiz), IES Aniturri BHI (Agurain), IES Botikazar BHI (Bilbao), IES Antigua Luberri BHI (Donostia-San Sebastián) and IES Urola Ikastola Azkoitia-Azpeitia BHI accompanied by teachers and representatives and authorities of the Basque Department of Education met in the Basque Government headquarters building in Lakua (Vitoria-Gasteiz) . These students had previously been discussing in their schools on several topics and issues relevant to Europe and their role as students and citizens in the European Union. On 5th May 2011 they travelled to the buildings of the Basque Government in Vitoria-Gasteiz where Conchi Bergera, the Elos coordinator in the Basque Country, had arranged a room with Comenius and Elos posters besides ICT facilities. The twenty students had not met before this World Café session. They mixed up in small groups with a secretary who took down the minutes of the discussions. We, teachers, were initially somehow expectant about the results of this experience. It went on perfectly well. To break the ice there were some welcome words and instructions about the procedures and the students immediately and enthusiastically got down to work. Each discussion circle dealt with a specific range of topics and after several minutes the students swapped over into another group and topic. The quantity and quality of the contributions were fantastic. Eventually they reflected their conclusions in the ppt you can open below. A success we would like to repeat in the future.
